Stewarts Melville 2XV v Hawick Force

Hawick Force travelled to Inverleith last Saturday with a youthfull squad of 22 with several players missing to face a seasoned Stewarts Melville outfit who they face again in a months time on league duty.

The young Force side battled hard while showing real Hawick heart and desire to come out on top despite being down to 14 men on 2 occasions with yellow cards to Dean McCracken and Lee Martin aswell as losing influential captain Chris Ritson to an ankle injury and big Daniel Suddon with a shoulder knock after 20minutes. The young Robbie Dyes fronted up in defence with impressive shifts from Logan Gordon Woolley, Murray Renwick & front rowers Euan Knox & Ruaridh Macleod while brothers Robbie and Jae Linton worked tirelessly throughout.

Tries were scored by Robbie Linton, Jae Linton x 2 and Shaun Desport with Dean McCracken and Lewis Stormont adding the extras.

Special Mentions to Lewis Stormont, Nikki Laidlaw, Chris Sanders and Ryan Nichol who made their debuts in a green jersey and to Callum Simpson for helping out in the front row. All in all it was a positive outcome for the rejuvinated Hawick Force with plenty of positives for coaches McCracken, Cannon and Robertson to take into the coming months.

With Cannon adding " The boys showed real grit and determination to get the win against a much bigger and more experienced side"

The Force face one of their toughest tests when they play Melrose Storm tonight in their final warm up game before their league campaign starts. The match kicks off at 7:30pm on Mansfield Park
