Hawick Force v GHA 2XV
Hawick Force played host to GHA 2nd XV at Mansfield Haugh last Saturday in conditions that were far from perfect for free flowing rugby.
The Force were made to work hard for the bonus point victory after dominating a first half in which they tried to hard to get the try bonus point sown up when taking the points on offer and keeping the scored board ticking over would have been the sensible option for the eager Force who allowed GHA to still be in touch at half time.
Second half was again a half in which the young side perharps at times showed a lack of maturity when they were guilty of trying to force things in attack and kicking possession away to often that eventually allowed GHA to score 3 break away tries after some sloppy tackles in defence.
One thing this side has in bucket loads is heart and desire to win and fight for each other and that showed when after going behind they conjured up the bonus point try for Darrin Robson that is worthy of winning any game.
Coach Michael Robertson said " I am glad to come away with 5 points but we still have a lot to work on as a group if we want to achieve our goals this season, the boys showed real guts to fight back and get the win and thats a great quality to have"
Try scorers were Darrin Robson x 2, Shaun Fairbairn and Ryan Hamilton.
Special mention this week is reserved for Deaglan Lightfoot and Ryan Hamilton who are both scrumhalfs by trade but put in great shifts for the team on the wing and showed the spirit that is in the Force camp at the moment.
