Glasgow Hawks v Hawick
The Greens travelled to Glasgow Hawks for a BT Premiership encounter and following last week’s thumping from Heriots had a much better performance and gained a losing bonus point which could be valuable at the end of the season.
The game was played at Balgray, home of Kelvinside Academy, instead of Old Anniesland, and the surface was heavy for this time of the season.
It was the visitors who opened the scoring when Gary Johnstone took a nice interception to run in from 60 metres to give a 5-0 lead.
The home side were getting a lot of possession and when Greens flanker, Guy Graham, was yellow carded the Hawks took full advantage and scored two tries and converted one to give them a 12-5 lead.
Ali Wear landed two penalty goals in the second period but Hawks scored another two tries to give them the bonus point and Glasgow professional player, George Horne also converted them to give the home side a 26-11 lead going into the last five minutes of the game.
Huge credit to the Greens the dug deep and following a mass brawl they drove a lineout fully 20 metres before hooker Matt Carryer scored. With a couple of minutes left the Greens had the sniff of a potential bonus point when it looked a long way away in the middle of the second half.
Ali Wear landed a last minute penalty to give Hawick a much deserved bonus point.
