Selkirk A v Hawick Force
Hawick Force made the short trip to Philliphaugh last friday night for the league fixture v Selkirk.
The pitch was heavy underfoot meaning running rugby would not be on the cards to often. The game was a hard fought encounter between to evenly matched sides, the Force lead through an early Bruce Campbell penalty and thats how the score stayed until the 39th minute when the impressive Darren Clapperton finished of a smart Selkirk attack beside the posts and the converstion was kicked to make the half time score 7-3.
The 2nd half was much of the same with the Force scrum and maul being dominant but lacking a cutting edge in the backs meant the only score of the half was another Bruce Campbell penalty. The last 5 minutes of the game were dominated by the Force but they sadly lacked the composure needed to secure the win.
The young greens will take this setback in their stride and move on to tomorrows match at home to Dundee Titans with the earlier KO time of 2pm.
MOTM was the Impressive 18 year old hooker Callum Renwick making his first appearence in senior rugby of the bench for the 2nd half. He carried hard and tackled like a seasoned campaigner and will be putting pressure on the 1st team jersey in the coming years.
