If ever you needed evidence of having a strong 2nd XV was important to a club, this game was a very good example.
For this Friday night match at The Gytes, the home of Peebles RFC, the Greens coaches selected a mixed squad of seasoned premiership players along with up-and-coming talent from the Hawick Force for this Booker Border League encounter.
It was a cold evening in Peebles but this not deter the Greens from playing an expansive game and they scored six tries in the first half for a 34-0 lead. Try scorers in the first were Lewis Ferguson, Bruce McNeil, Fraser Renwick (2), Dalton Redpath and Ross Combe with Ali Weir converting two.
In the second half there was the usual plethora of changes but the Greens still kept the same momentum to their play with tries from Darren Robson (2), Ruaridh MacLeod and Bruce McNeil scoring tries with Weir converting two.
The home side scored a consolation try near the end of the game.
All in all a worthwhile game and good to get another win. The BT Premiership returns this weekend with Stirling County visiting Mansfield Park.
