Welcome everyone to Mansfield for our last Tennent’s Premiership home game of 2021.
I am particularly delighted to welcome Edinburgh Accies President Bob Easson and club secretary John Wright together with the Accies committee, supporters, coaches and players.
In September Accies beat us fairly convincingly up in Edinburgh, so we are aware we face a tough challenge this afternoon. An added incentive for both teams today is that we are playing for the Bill McLaren Shield. Accies having won their last four home fixtures so have their name engraved on it but must now take it on the road.
Our season is progressing nicely with recent results for both teams going in our favour. Credit must go to players, coaches and all involved on the rugby side. I sense a real buzz and togetherness at training, with one of the play-off spots being the ultimate aim, hopefully with home advantage.
The big downside is the recent long-term injury to Jae Linton. Jae has been one of the stand out players this season and l am sure end of season honours were waiting. We wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him back in a green jersey next season. Also, a big thanks to our Academy players Ben Evans, Dan Gamble and Rudi Brown for their excellent contribution to our season.
We are pleased to continue our East v West fixture on Boxing Day which is a great chance to see some younger players and future stars performing. Afterwards in the club rooms a domino tournament and disco will be held when everybody is welcome to join in the festivities.
As ever be kind to the match officials and be courteous to those around you.
May the best team win. Enjoy the match.
