Everyone at Mansfield Park were deeply saddened today to hear of the passing of Life Member and Hawick rugby legend Wullie Gray.
Wullie wore the Green jersey with huge pride back in the 1950’s, until his playing career was tragically cut short by a serious knee injury.
Always a larger than life character, Wullie commanded huge respect at all levels of the game, not only in Hawick but across the whole of the Borders, having had a very successful coaching career at both semi junior and junior level. He was also a highly respected selector for the Robbie Dyes in the 80’s, being remembered as someone who was able to talk to the players in a very honest and open manner, something which was greatly appreciated by all.
The club would like to send our most sincere and heartfelt condolences to Wullie’s wife Alison, his sons John and Alan and daughter Lesley, together with all their families.
As a mark of respect, there will be a minutes silence prior to the Hawick vs Musselburgh Premiership game on Saturday afternoon.
