The Hawick Rugby Memories Club is planning three more online virtual rugby memories meetings thanks to a grant from the Teviot and Liddesdale Community Fund. When covid-19 restrictions put an end to the Club’s regular monthly meetings at Mansfield Park the memories group experimented with an online virtual meeting in September.
Produced in collaboration with Stuart Cameron of StuMedia the half-hour programme was watched by over 1,200 people. Murray Watson of the Hawick Rugby Memories Club said, “over the last eight years we have shown how rugby memories can enhance well being for people with memory issues, those living on their own and indeed anyone with an interest in our great game of rugby. Given the potential mental health issues arising from the pandemic we are delighted to have received funding of £1,500 through Scottish Borders Council to be able to continue our work online”.
The Hawick Rugby Memories Club was the first rugby memories club in the world and their work was recognised in an online presentation that was part of the Being Human Festival last Friday. The club’s first virtual programme can be viewed at https://vimeo.com/453467746
