Saturday saw a spirited effort by a depleted Force side against a bigger and well organised home side. Hawick had plenty of possession and breenging runs by Andrew Ford were only halted near the line by desperate defending from the hosts. It was on such a run, when supporting the ever fearless Mathew Huggan, that Fordie injured his leg and was carted off sadly.Charlie Comley at 9 was a revelation, slightly built he personified the never say die attitude of the Force in tackling everything and was close to being man of the match, while his half back partner Justin Tait used clever runs to stretch the opponents.Murray Renwick played a captain’s role and took most lineout balls with ease, thanks in no small part to Liam Graham having his best ever game in Green.James Delaney kicked well and was always a threat breaking through, cleverly nearly scoring more than once. Aided by the other winger, young McMichan they formed a hard tackling but swift running threat to the hosts.By half time the game was won, but the 2nd half showed a team with real mettle and none more so that man of the match Tom Huggan who races 60 yards to tackle the opposing winger in to touch 2 yards from the line, breathtaking stuff. Scott Young was inventive and will surely get his chance for the firsts before the season is out.Though the scoreline looks one sided, there were two very committed sides out there, and it is to the Force lads’ credit that they played all the way to the final whistle, in fine spirit and with hard driving runs and even braver tackling.
