We are fast approaching the biggest game in the Club’s recent history, our Tennent’s Premiership semi-final against Marr at Troon on March 26th. This is the reward for our young squad’s very impressive season with the chance to become Scottish Champions for the first time since 2002. The match will be fiercely contested between two evenly matched sides. Marr are well coached by Craig Redpath with a powerful pack and some speedy outside backs. The Marr crowd give their team a very enthusiastic and passionate support so hopefully a large Hawick support heads west to cheer on the Greens on this huge occasion for the Club. The Club is running a supporter’s bus so please contact Gus Neilson membership@hawickrfc.co.uk or call 07794605034 before Monday 22 March.
We were fortunate to catch up with Teri rugby star Lisa Thomson last week to make a long overdue presentation from the Club. It was in recognition of the Scottish international’s inclusion in the GB ladies sevens squad at the Tokyo Olympics last summer. Her presentation consisted of a silver stylised rugby ball necklace and a beautiful piece of Hawick made knitwear.
Congratulations are due to Hawick Youth on becoming semi-junior champions. Going through the season unbeaten is a special achievement. All the players deserve credit along with coaches Paul Stewart, Keith Mitchell and Stephen Hill. We are very excited with some of this group heading to Mansfield next season and challenging for places in our teams.
We have started preparations for our Border Festival of Rugby tournament on12 to 14 August. This was a great success last year in difficult circumstances and l am sure it will be expanded this year.
Finally, well done to Scotland on their comfortable win in Rome with both Stuart and Darcy scoring well deserved tries. Rhys Tait also played well captaining the U20’s side.
I am looking forward to seeing everybody at Marr.
