157 Hawick RFC members served in the First World War and 40 were killed including internationalists Walter Forrest and Walter Sutherland. Vivian Grieve, a Greens stalwart and 1929 Hawick Cornet was among those killed in the Second World War. It had been felt for some time that the Club should lay a wreath at the War Memorial on Remembrance Sunday and President Neil Hamilton and senior player Shawn Muir were honoured to do this in 2021 supported by several committee members. It was fitting that today’s rugby boys paid tribute to their predecessors who were destined never to return to Mansfield Park.
